Hackers operating under the handle of Rex Mundi have claimed that they hacked into the systems of Banque Cantonale de Geneve (BCGE) and stolen the banks customer information including private emails. Now the hackers are demanding €10,000 for not making the data public. The hackers have given the Banks management a deadline until Friday to deliver the ransom. https://twitter.com/rexmundi14/status/553116466904825856 The threat was repeated again just four hours earlier, https://twitter.com/rexmundi14/status/553443879521746946 The Banque Cantonale de Geneve (BCGE) is a bank based in Geneva. It was formed in 1994 after merger of two popular Swiss banks, Banque Hypothecaire du Canton de Geneve and CEG Geneve, both Geneva state-owned banks. The Bank attracts deposits and offers mortgage, consumer, real estate, and construction loans and private banking services. Rex Mundi claims to have downloaded database containing 30,192 private emails belonging to the BCGE customers. Rex Mundi seems to have employed a SQL injection attack against the BCG’s public servers which contained the customer information database. Rex Mundi claims that the stolen details contain customer names, addresses, phone numbers, account numbers, as well as email communication between the customers and the financial institution. The hackers have further stated that no bank accounts have been compromised. The hackers also noted that they had informed the bank about the hack a few days ago,“We would like to mention that, as always, we did contact BCGE a few days ago and offered them not to post their data in exchange for a very reasonable amount of money.” As BCGE has not confirmed the hack attack, it remains to be seen whether it will pay the ransom to the perpetrators. Rex Mundi are meanwhile having fun on Twitter. https://twitter.com/rexmundi14/status/553444137572118529
