On Thursday, the section that went live on the App Store is meant to pay tribute to the June 28, 1969 Stonewall riots that served as one of the most famous historical events that lead to the gay liberation movement. App Store visitors will find books, apps, TV shows, movies and podcasts that represent the LGBT community. In “Philadelphia,” a gay lawyer with AIDS who gets expelled, and finds help suing his former company and “Milk”, a biography of Harvey Milk’s struggles as a gay activist who became first openly elected gay official in California are some of the more famous movies that are included. Books like “Raising My Rainbow” and “The Right Side of History” and TV shows like “Modern Family” and “Orange is the New Black” also features in the section. Of late, Apple has been vocal about LGBT issues. Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, who not long ago had announced that he was gay, has always spoken against anti-LGBT legislation. The anti-discrimination bill of Alabama has his name featured on it. The company also uploaded a video on YouTube of the many Apple employees who had participated and marched in the parade in Pride 2014 in San Francisco. In light of Friday’s Supreme Court news, you should get ready for what should be a pretty jubilant Pride Weekend.
