Imagine what is at stake here. There are approximately 245 million registered CCTV cameras worldwide, and many of them still had the default login credentials. Imagine that these 245 million camera’s turning into zombie networks. The combined power of these security cameras could launch mammoth sized DDoS attack against any entity in the world.
Right now only 1000 cameras have been infected according the Incapsula research. Considering the risks these unsecured security cameras pose, companies have to either ship more secure cameras or tell their customers how to protect themselves. Till such time, these surveillance systems will likely represent an ongoing risk.
