It was expected to be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop by March this year but after numerous delays, it was announced that the device will jump directly to the newer Android 5.1 version of Lollipop. The update will be an over-the-air (OTA) one and have the build number 23.11.33. Due to lack of VoLTE support (and not bugs), Motorola chose to omit the Android 5.0 update for the Droid Turbo, which is a relevant feature for Verizon-based smartphones. The software update will bring features from both Android 5.0 and Android 5.1 Lollipop users’ way. The new features and enhancements include a new Recent Apps page, new Material Design UI and battery saver mode that deploys two-finger Quick Settings menu, Project Volta, improved security features, better lockscreen notifications, Android ART runtime etc. While the Android 5.1 Lollipop will also bring several bug fixes for issues prevailing in Android 5.0, Motorola had said in the past that this would not mean that Android 5.1 would be free from bugs and issues. “With thousands of different environment conditions and thousands of usage variations, currently, it’s nearly impossible to make it bug free,” Motorola’s Luciano Carvalho has noted previously. It is unclear if the Motorola update will resolve the problems users have been experiencing with the Droid Turbo‘s 3,900mAh battery. Since the Android 5.1 Lollipop software update from Motorola is being released in phases, it may not be released on the same day as the Droid Turbo hits the market. Although the update has been established to roll out starting June 10th, it might take a few days or even weeks for the rollout to be completed fully. On June 10, one can manually check if they have received the update by navigating to Settings » About Phone » Software Update » Check for updates. In case the update is available, it is suggested to connect to a Wi-Fi network, in order to avoid unnecessary data usage charges.
