IBM intends to create even bigger versions of the NS16e, a machine that was purchased by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and they want to come closer to matching the scale of a human brain. According to Jun Sawada, a researcher present at IBM, the company might finally be able to place as many neurons and synapses present in a human brain in an actual computing machine. The human is an extremely power-efficient biological computer and efforts to create brain-mimicking systems are intended to provide a big leap in processing tons of data, but with a more power-efficient manner as compared to current generation computers....

The “Adversarial Robustness Toolbox” is a platform-agnostic artificial intelligence (AI) toolbox created by IBM that features attacks, defenses, and benchmarks to protect AI systems. Current AI methods like recognizing objects in images, annotating videos, converting speech to text, or translating between different languages are based on DNNs. According to IBM, while DNNs are usually very accurate, they are vulnerable to adversarial attacks and can be used to misclassify or incorrectly predict outcomes that could benefit an attacker....

For those unaware, the European Union (EU) last month approved the rule that enforces USB-C charging port as a common charging port for all consumer electronics. This new law is part of a broader EU effort to reduce e-waste and to empower consumers to make more sustainable choices. According to the rule, companies will be required to offer USB Type-C ports for small devices like iPhones, Android smartphones, tablets, Bluetooth earphones, and other portable devices in the EU by the end of 2024....

Currently, this feature is available only on mobile apps and mobile websites. While there is a Windows version of the Instagram app but it has limited functionality. The security flaw CVE-2019-13615 termed as “critical” was identified by Germany’s national Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT Bund). The vulnerability affects version 3.0.7.1 in Linux, UNIX and Windows versions of VLC media player as claimed by the researcher. The vulnerability allows for RCE (remote code execution) which potentially allows hackers to install, run and execute malicious code or modify files/data on target machines without the user’s consent. Now a job listing suggests that Google may be working on building its own processor. The new Google job listing given here, invites applications for a “multimedia chip architect.” The listing suggests that Google may be planning to go all the way and design its own processors for future products as well. Interestingly, the listing was apparently posted by the Pixel division which is behind the Pixel C tablet. According to reports from The New York Times, a team of hackers who executed the attack as early as March on the South Korea-based company appear to be from China, known as the Codoso Group who managed to gain access to LoopPay’s corporate network. The incident was framed as a case of international, possibly corporate, espionage, rather than just another hack. The breach was discovered in August, giving the hackers a full five months access to the network....

The deceased identified as Rosli Othman, 35, was found dead next to his mobile phone, charger and an extension wire at his friend’s house in the town of Jasin. Darkode has been a marketplace where cybercriminals can purchase and trade hacking tools and it has been in existence since at least 2008.
