A company’s spokesman said the NTT previously had handed GPS data over to authorities in times of crisis, mostly connected to crime investigations. “If requested, we provided positional information using the GPS systems on phones to emergency services such as the police, ambulance services and the Japan Coast Guard, in line with proper guidelines,” the spokesman told The Japan Times. Keys, who was found guilty of three criminal counts in October, was convicted of giving Anonymous login credentials to the computer system of the Tribune Company, which owns the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Baltimore Sun and other media companies. According to the prosecutors, Keys provided the login credentials to Anonymous for facilitating the hack and also egged them to carry out the hack attack. Keys got hold of the login details from his time as a web producer for KTXL FOX40, a radio station which is owned by Tribune Company which also owns LA Times....

The patent was filed by LG with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) and was granted on November 20. Apparently, the patent was filed by the South Korean giant in 2014 but only recently made public. The patent explains that the 16 camera lenses on the back of the phone are arranged in a curved matrix arrangement that will allow the user to capture an image from multiple angles at the same time....

The significant major release of LibreOffice 6.2 is the NotebookBar, which was in an experimental phase for quite some time, is based on the MUFFIN concept (“My User Friendly & Flexible Interface”). The NotebookBar is available in three variants: Tabbed, Grouped and Contextual and is not enabled by default. Each flavor has a different approach to the menu layout, and complement the traditional Toolbars and Sidebar. “The Tabbed variant aims to provide a familiar interface for users coming from proprietary office suites and is supposed to be used primarily without the sidebar, while the Grouped one allows to access “first-level” functions with one click and “second-level” functions with a maximum of two clicks,” says the official blog post....

However, a recently released press note from Synaptics, the leading developer of human interface solutions, mentions “a next-generation operating system” from Microsoft with a focus on biometric security and Windows Hello”. In other words, it hints that Microsoft is likely working on a next-generation OS that is secured by biometrics. The press release notes titled “Synaptics, AMD Collaborate on Enterprise-Grade Biometric PC Security for Next-Generation Microsoft Operating System” announced “a joint initiative centered on delivering a new industry benchmark in highly-secure biometric fingerprint authentication for enterprise/commercial and consumer notebook PCs based on next-generation AMD Ryzen™ Mobile platform and Microsoft’s next-generation operating system....

Although the widespread of this issue was unclear, the higher number of reports caused concern and hence in February, 2020 Microsoft initiated investigation for the same and now the company has responded publicly explaining the possible cause of the problem....
