Always trust the Chinese to do the unthinkable. They have come a long way from reverse-engineering products made in United States, Japan, and South Korea to build their own hack proof quantum satellite. Even in light of people making jokes about Chinese products being third class, their scientists are toiling hard to make new breakthroughs in teleportation tech which we had reported earlier. Now the Chinese scientists have made a new record by using their quantum satellite to send an unbreakable hack-proof code which will self-destruct if it is accessed by an unauthorized person or is tampered with....

In a statement, a spokesperson said: “U.S. Customs and Border Protection experienced a temporary outage with its processing systems at air ports of entry in the United States and took immediate action to address the technology disruption. In the meantime, CBP officers processed international travelers using alternative procedures until systems were back on line. The outage lasted about 90 minutes. At this time, there is no indication the service disruption was malicious in nature....

The hack on Lizardstesser(.)su was reported by Brian Krebs of Krebs On Security. According to Brian, someone hacked LizardStresser[dot]su, the Web site the group uses to coordinate attacks and sell subscriptions to its attacks-for-hire service. A copy of the LizardStresser customer database obtained by KrebsOnSecurity shows that it attracted more than 14,241 registered users during its first month of operation. Though Brian says that only a few of those may be using the rent-a-tool....

The MacKeeper Security Research Center discovered an unsecured MongoDB instance owned by C&Z Tech Limited, a New Zealand-based company, which operates several dating websites such as haveafling.mobi, haveafling.co.nz, haveanaffair.co.nz, haveanaffair.mobi, hookupdating.mobi, but also a few mobile applications. The exposed database included login details of over 1.5 million users with their complete credentials in plaintext form – username and password combinations as well as personal information. It also included several bits of their personal information, including their weight, data of birth, race, height, gender, IP address, country of origin, and other pieces of information that might help users find partners one night stands or finding partners for extramarital affairs....

Sakura Nori (@0xN0ri), a 16-year-old embedded systems enthusiast and the developer behind the fun experiment, started with 512MB of RAM, which is half the minimum requirement to run Windows 10 (i.e. 1GB of RAM for Windows 10 32 bit). Nori reduced the amount of RAM, first to 256MB, then to 192MB until it was no longer able to work properly. He attempted to run Windows 10 with only 128MB of RAM, but the operating system failed to load and crashed with a BSOD (blue screen of death) at boot....

The track will be built around Quay Valley, a proposed 75,000-resident solar-powered community halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Hyperloop Transportation says it plans to start off construction in the second quarter of 2016, with the estimated cost of the track said to $100 million. The personal data includes details of 15 million T-Mobile customers and applicants in the U.S. who at one point may have applied for T-Mobile service. These details includes names, birth dates, addresses, Social Security and drivers’ license numbers as well as other information required by T-Mobile’s internal credit assessment system. The company said the breach did not expose payment or banking information, nor did it affect its consumer credit database....

User Experience Researcher, Kristin Hendrix and Research Scientist, Alex Peysakhovich at Facebook explain clickbait stories as those with headlines that deliberately leave out important information or else try to mislead readers and get them to click their story. For instance, the new Facebook algorithm can identify headlines like “What she saw at this moment will SHOCK YOU!” or “You won’t believe what will happen next” or “He Put Garlic In His Shoes Before Going To Bed And What Happens Next Is Hard To Believe” or “The Dog Barked At The Deliveryman And His Reaction Was Priceless....

This means that Facebook’s estimation of false accounts has increased from 1 percent last quarter to 2-3 percent this quarter, due to fake or “user-misclassified and undesirable accounts”. Also, 10 percent of the social network’s monthly users are now estimated to be duplicate accounts, which has increased from six percent estimated last quarter. In a study published by Harvard Business Review (HBR), Facebook has been ranked the most empathetic company in the world. The recently released Global Empathy Index has published two different lists of companies: 20 companies on a “most empathetic” list and 20 on a “least empathetic” one. The list has been made by comparing 170 companies, based on an analysis of the internal culture, CEO performances, ethics, and social media presence on major financial indexes....

Built over a period of 14 months and weighing about 880 pounds (400 kg), the drone is designed to fly over a remote region for up to three months independently, says Yael Maguire, the company’s Engineering Director of Connectivity. The drone is a high-altitude, long-endurance airplane that will provide internet to people from an altitude of 60,000 feet to 90,000 feet (20 and 30 km), above the altitude of commercial airplanes, so that it remains unaffected by changes in weather....

Austria based 47 year old Daniel Kapp was diagnosed with prostate cancer last month. Daniel used Google to know more about the illness. The next morning when he opened his Facebook account, he was shell shocked to notice that he was being shown ads of funeral directors. Daniel says he was ‘bombarded’ with ‘insensitive’ promotions that he couldn’t remove. Unfortunately for Daniel he couldnt even delete them. “I was just knocked off my feet to see that there on the screen,” said Daniel, who works as a strategic consultant in Austria....

This Internet through solar-based plane is a part of the bigger Internet.org project that Facebook is launching in India. Daniels stated that Facebook is working on alternate low cost internet delivery technologies other than traditional ways of providing connectivity including solar planes and satellites. If implemented, the scheme will see the FCC’s Lifeline programme, which gives eligible consumers a US$9.25 monthly subsidy for fixed voice services, extended to include standalone fixed or mobile broadband services and bundles of fixed or mobile voice and data services. The proposal announced by the FCC would involve reorganizing the “Lifeline” plan that is now available for telephone service. Under a proposed update to its existing Lifeline financial assistance program for phone services, the FCC would expand the use of monthly subsidies to include broadband services....
