Google’s Project Zero team of security researchers disclosed a “high-severity” vulnerability it found in Microsoft’s Edge browser after the company failed to patch it within the allotted time of 90 days. The vulnerability can allow an attacker to gain administrator privileges if exploited. For those unfamiliar, Project Zero is a team of security analysts employed by Google to find zero-day vulnerabilities before they are found and exploited by malicious people....

The App is still in beta and Google is allowing users to download it on invite only basis. The sign in process is simple but one odd thing about Who’s Down is Google also asks for a school name when requesting an invitation. This would suggest that Google has developed the App with college students in mind. It is surprising why Google has built the Who’s Down as a standalone App when the features in this App are more suited to be integrated with Google Maps or Google+....

The project called “Lo-Fi player” is designed by Vibert Thio, a technologist and artist who did the Summer 2020 Magenta intern with the team. It is a 2D pixelated virtual room that allows users to mix low-fi, hip-hop music tracks to create a customized music room in their browser, even if they don’t have a lot of prior knowledge on the subject. For those unaware, Magenta, powered by Google’s open-source TensorFlow system, is a research project exploring the role of machine learning in the process of creating art and music....

A recent study sponsored by a complainant in the EU antitrust trial against Google revealed that the company has been found to be favoring its own content in search results even if it is of lower quality in comparison to the organic search results; thus harming not only the consumers but also its competitors. The study was conducted by Tim Wu, a professor at Columbia Law School and Michael Luca, an assistant professor at Harvard Business School....

During a hearing last week in federal court, an attorney for Oracle said that the payout was part of a revenue-sharing agreement the two companies have that gives Apple a percentage of the revenue Google generates through Apple devices. According to a witness questioned during the court proceedings, “at one point in time” the revenue share between Google and Apple was 34%. It was not immediately clear if the percentage reflects the share Google keeps or pays to Apple....

The scientific paper published by Google’s researchers and seen by the FT before being removed from NASA’s website earlier this week. The researchers in the paper claim that “their processor was able to perform a calculation in three minutes and 20 seconds that would take today’s most advanced classical computer, known as Summit (from IBM), approximately 10,000 years.” The researchers used Google’s Sycamore (53-qubit design) quantum computer for the problem....

The issue was first discovered by film and TV editors across Los Angeles on Monday evening when their Mac Pro computers running older versions of Apple’s operating system as well as Avid’s Media Composer software refused to reboot, reported Variety. “We recently discovered that a Chrome update may have shipped with a bug that damages the file system on macOS machines with System Integrity Protection (SIP) disabled, including machines that do not support SIP....

“We’re aware of the issue and are in contact with Xiaomi to work on a fix,” a Google spokesperson said in a statement. “In the meantime, we’re disabling Xiaomi integrations on our devices.” According to Android Police, the move will affect all Mi Home integrations and commands for the Assistant. The issue came to light after a Reddit user ‘Dio-V’ tried to stream content from his newly purchased Xiaomi Mijia 1080p Smart IP Security Camera to a Google Nest Hub....

For those unaware, Google Nest, previously named Google Home, is a line of smart speakers developed by Google under the Google Nest brand. Nest Audio is the successor to the mid-range Google Home smart speaker that was launched in 2016. The newly introduced Nest Audio focuses on music quality and has “top-of-the-range sound quality”, claims Google. In comparison to the original Google Home, the smart speaker produces 50% more bass and 75% more volume....

It’s just over been 48 hours since Rockstar released their latest magnum opus game Grand Theft Auto V PC and Rockstar’s latest open-world game has already been cracked to allow for modding. Roackstar had tried its best to prevent hacking of PC version of GTA V by building several security measures into it, without its go ahead. The hacker behind the celebgate has met his fate with the law or so it seems. A Pennsylvania based hacker has pleaded guilty on Tuesday, May 24, to illegally hacking into the Apple and Google accounts of several female celebrities and stealing their private photos, videos and information. Ryan Collins, 36, was accused of gaining access to more than 100 online accounts between November 2012 and September 2014. According to the Associated Press, he pleaded guilty in federal court on Tuesday to “gaining unauthorized access to a protected computer to obtain information....

It all started with a hacking group hacking HBO servers and stealing 1.35 TB data including scripts of Game of Thrones Season 7 and other HBO blockbuster TV series. Then some employees of Star India leaked the GoT Season 7 Episode 4 “Spoils of War.” Matters got worse as HBO Spain mistakenly aired the Game of Thrones Episode 6 “Beyond the Wall” a full six days before it is to be aired internationally today....

Security researchers at Trustwave’s SpiderLabs who spotted the malicious email campaign discovered that the fake emails are pushing people into installing a Windows 10 “critical update” on their computers. The subject of the email says “Install Latest Microsoft Update now!” or “Critical Microsoft Windows Update!” The message in the email contains only one single line that says, “Please install the latest critical update from Microsoft attached to this mail” and an attached file....

Fortinet researcher, Axelle Apvrille discovered vulnerability in Fitbit device that opens it up simple malware attacks. More importantly, the malicious code that can be sent to a Fitbit device without the user’s knowledge can then infect a computer used to sync data collected by the wearable. According to Apvrille, Fitbit can be easily hacked over Bluetooth and needs just 10 seconds to be delivered. A hacker only has to be in the proximity of the target (Bluetooth range) to send the code and then wait for the target to connect his or her Fitbit to a PC....
