Rackspace restored after DDOS takes out DNS servers for 11 hoursRackspaceDDoS attack The company in its status report says that DDoS attack on its DNS servers DNS, that were sending both legitimate and DDoS traffic to Rackspace were blacklisted. Thus during this 11 hour period, even genuine Rackspace visitors were inadvertently blocked. Rackspace Rackspace Inc. is a managed cloud computing company based in Windcrest, Texas, USA with branches in Australia, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Israel, The Netherlands, India, and Hong Kong, and data centers operating in Texas, Illinois, Virginia, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Hong Kong....

The Proton-M was carrying a Mexican satellite MexSat-1 which it was supposed to put into orbit. The Proton-M failure is second one in two months, following an April 28 mishap involving an unmanned cargo craft ferrying supplies to the International Space Station. “An emergency situation in the third-stage engine occurred during a Proton-M launch into orbit,” Roscosmos, Russia’s federal space agency, said via Twitter. The Proton-M malfunction developed in about nine minutes after liftoff, when the third stage failed to separate and deploy the MexSat-1 communications satellite, Roscosmos reported....

Samsung plans to issue a software update for its recalled Galaxy Note 7 smartphones that will prevent them from overheating by limiting battery recharges to under 60%. Samsung announced the software update through a front page ad on Seoul Shinmun, a popular South Korean daily newspaper. In an effort to improve the anonymizing networks’ security, the hackers, Alejandro Caceres and Amanda Towler set PunkSPIDER loose on the Dark Web; however, they surprisingly discovered that the Dark Web may not be as huge as estimated by the experts. When PunkSPIDER scanned the entire Tor network last week, only about 7,000 .onion domains were found by the security tool in total. The entire scan just took only three hours to finish....

The researchers who published their study in the journal ‘Scientific Reports’ said that they were able to reverse time by a fraction of a second. “This is one in a series of papers on the possibility of violating the second law of thermodynamics. They also made a post on the Fort Bragg Facebook page told people to avoid using the Army website because of the hack, saying The SEA fired a second tweet giving the reasons for hacking the US Army website just hours after it had hacked it....

But when Netflix started to block subscribers who accessed its service through VPN services and other software tools that happen to bypass geolocation I was stunned and as a legitimate user, of Netflix service I was furious. Movie executives seemed to have successfully coursed Netflix on the VPN witch hunt as the movie studios want full control over what people can see in their respective countries. To be brutally honest I was not even aware I was being blocked at first....
