The release of Android M which is Android Marshmallow 6.0 saw it missing out on some major features which drew flak by its users. The major miss by Google was multi-tasking support. While Android M is still in the process of covering all Android smartphones, Google has started working on the next major build of Android, currently referred to as “N.” It has started teasing features of seventh iteration of Android, which is aimed to cover all the features that were missed in Android M. The Google Pixel C tablet had recently gone on sale and the team did an AMA to celebrate it. During the Pixel C Team’s Reddit AMA session, one of the questions asked was about a potential split screen UI for Android, Andrew Bowers, Google’s Director for Consumer Hardware said, “We’re working on lots of things right now for N that, of course, we wish we had, you know, yesterday. But we’d spoil the surprise of N if we shared all of them. Split screen is in the works!” While it is consoling to see Google bring the spit-screen UI among many other features in Android N, whether or not this makes it in time (which presumably is due for release in 2016) is a different story. However, split screen UIs aren’t exactly new to Android, as this is a feature that Samsung has been touting in its Galaxy Note series for a while now. However, what is unclear is that if the split-screen UI will be supported on both phones and tablets or reserved for tablets like Apple did with iOS 9. Currently, there is no clarity as to what Google has in store with Android N. Only the official launch of Android N will disclose the features in it, which we believe is a long wait from now.
